This island is called Whale Island, because of it looks like a Whale - with a bit of imagination.
Our first anchorage in Kuna Land, San Blas.
It turned out to be a small and very traditional community.
This is the main walking street. No cars and all the huts look almost the same;
Chris being invited into a Kuna house. the husband is a police working in the violent border area to Columbia.
New Dawn at anchor. To the right is one of the many toilets, which did not invite us for a swim.
A traditional kayak cut out of a tree.
Here we met the first Kuna and she invited us to her house.
The house was located over the water and we had to traverse the flimsy bridge see here.
Once inside her house she was very friendly and proud of showing us her Mola making. Chris bought quite a lot from her.
Her husband and two sons work on the main land, as most of the males and only come home every 5 days. They work on the main land farming and live on the nearby islands, to avoid the Mosquitoes, Crocodiles and other Jungle animals. In addition the island get more wind and keep them relatively cooler that what the main land can offer.
Obviously we bought enough so that she was less camera shy. We enjoyed her friendliness.
The only restaurant in town, which did not look inviting to us.
