Monkeys In Lumut Town.

As we have jungle all around us, I see monkeys each day in the trees, along or crossing the roads, or crawling along the overhead cables in town. Today there were a couple and one seemed to carry a small cat or was it a toy doll? The Craws were hunting it.

Sea Eagel.

 

As I am on the 14 th floor, I have a great view over the water front and bay of Lumut. In fact it is scary to look down from my flat and not easy to get use to. One advantage is to watch the Sea Eagles gliding past. They hover for ages back and fourth. There are two of them here and they live high up in the trees below me. They are very elegant when they glide in front of my flat and are beautiful birds, as well as being big and powerful.

Ramadan.

There is a total of about 7 billion people living on our earth and a full 22% of them - 1.6 billion - are  Muslims and are fasting from sunup to sundown, every day, for an entire month of the Ramadan that started this week-end. Usually Saturdays and especially Sundays are busy in this area with loads of car and motor bike traffic, as well as people in the restaurants all the day. But this week-end I found it unusually calm and hardly any traffic, with many restaurants closed during the day. But at sunset life comes back and the restaurants open, as the Muslims can then eat and drink (no alcohol) and they make up for it in a sense that obesity is a problem here.

However, I have noticed that many restaurants keep a small door open during the day, so I went to check it out. What happen is that people enter through that small door and sneak in to eat, as the restaurant is producing the food as usual. So much for the fasting Ramadan. But people need to eat to be able to work, I guess.

Bikes In Lumut.

Each week-end there are thousands bikers that visit Lumut and in general they come in groups of up to a hundred bikers and some wearing a club t-shirt. Most of them are small bikes of the kind of "mopeds" of up to 500 cc, at the most, but some clubs are coming with bikes of 800-1200 cc. Generally they are Suzuki's, Honda's and brands I am not familiar with, but I have spotted a few Harley Davidson, however they are rare. 

Today there was a group of, I guess, about 50 big bikers. A small group of them have hired rooms in my building and the below shows the photos of their bikes. The blue BMW must be a 1200 cc and is very impressive and extremely well equipped. Judging from the stickers, they have done Europe in 2012 from north to south Spain, then China, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia, as well as other countries.

 There are two swimming pool at the apartment blog, which are seldom used. Muslims swim fully closed and not only the females, but also males.
